The best eight family games for the Xbox 360
Jan 18th
There are dozens of great Xbox 360 family games to choose from – everything from sports games to dance games to games involving Cookie Monster and his Sesame Street pals. Here are just a few of our favorites:
Kinect Sports: Season Two
This follow-up release to last year's Kinect Sports, offers another great package of mini-games that are guaranteed to get the family up off the couch and moving around. This time it’s golf, darts, tennis, baseball, skiing and football, and the Kinect motion sensor mimics your every move, whether you on the slopes or nailing that 30 yard field goal.
The brand new in-game voice activation tool means you can quickly skip through the menus and call your own shots during the game action, and the Challenge Play mode lets you take on friends and family whether they are with you in the living room or joining in the action via Xbox LIVE.
Dance Central 2
No game better illustrates the amazing potential of Kinect for Xbox 360 than Dance Central 2. If your family loves to get up and dance, then this is the perfect party game for you. And even if you have two left feet – yes, dad, that’s you we’re talking to! – then the wide range of difficulty levels and the catalog of great dance hits will make it impossible for you not to join in. On-screen instructors take you through the various moves and offer encouragement along the way.
Kinectimals Now with BEARS!
Kinectimals Now with BEARS! expands on the first Kinectimals game, so you’re now playing among cuddly bear cubs as well as young lions and tigers. Kids can solve mysteries on an undiscovered island and share exciting adventures, all the while using their voices and bodies to interact with their new furry friends. A helpful fairly-like assistant shows kids how to get the animals to roll over and make other cute moves, and the patient and forgiving gameplay makes sure no-one gets left behind.
Kinect Disneyland Adventures
Disneyland Adventures puts you right at the heart of the Disneyland experience. You play the game exactly as you would spend a day at the famous Disney theme park. You stroll around an incredibly lifelike Disney scene, running into all the famous Disney characters and jumping on attractions like Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean. On the many rides, you use your arms and other body movements to help you steer – or in Peter Pan’s case, fly – to far-away places. If you can’t actually take the kids to Disney, then Disneyland Adventures may be the next best thing!
Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster
Join Cookie Monster, Elmo and the rest of the Sesame Street gang as they explore a living storybook titled “Once Upon a Monster.” The inspiring and entertaining adventure game helps kids and parents make new monster friends, solve puzzles, and learn important life lessons along the way. The Kinect sensor puts you right in the game action and activities such as monkey-see-monkey-do, playing instruments, flying, and running through an obstacle course will have everyone jumping around.
Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012
Want to make sure your family is getting a good workout? Your Shape 2012 is a fun and sociable series of fitness exercises that deliver serious results. There are over 90 hours of customizable routines that target every conceivable muscle group. Activities such as cardio boxing, jump rope, yoga, and various dance classes offer huge variety and guarantee that there’s something for everyone. The Kinect sensor tracks every move you make and provides feedback on each workout.
Fruit Ninja Kinect
The popular smartphone game is brought to the Xbox 360 through an Xbox LIVE download. Instead of using a swipe of your finger to slice up the flying fruit, the Kinect opens up the fruit demolition to your entire body. You can slice a variety of apples, pears, watermelon and other fruit by chopping at them with your arms or kicking at them with your legs. The result is often a crazed and hilarious scene, with arms and legs flying in all directions. Fruit Ninja Kinect is a game best played with family and friends, just in case someone peeks through the window and decides you need serious help!
Scene It? Movie Night
A great trivia game for movie buffs, Scene It? Movie Night offers a series of questions through 14 different puzzle categories. Your goal is to answer them as quickly as possible, as your score counts down. The multi-player mode can be played with up to four people, and buzzers and strict time limits add to the competitive fun. Movie Night includes clips from favorite movies and box-office classics, and additional downloadable content will always keep the experience fresh and up-to-date.
Far Cry 3 Announced, Coming 2012 For Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Jun 8th
Ubisoft had some big news at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, including the third game in the highly praised Far Cry series. That’s right, Far Cry 3 has been announced for multiple platforms. It also happens to be another game that makes Activision’s Call of Duty series look like ancient pixels and digital poo.
The new game sees players in the of a reporter on a tropical island investigating stuff as usual, but it turns out some crazy militiamen are going buck crazy on the inhabitants and it’s up to players to survive the craziness and get off the island alive.
The official debut trailer was released for Far Cry 3 and it’s an intense experience that really rivals Battlefield 3 in terms of immersion. You can check out the new trailer below or visit the Official Website to learn more about Far Cry 3, which is due out next year for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
About the Final Fantasy XIII
Sep 2nd
Making its return is the highly popular sphere grid from Final Fantasy 10 where players spend experience points to raise a certain attribute. And also introduced (sort of) is the role system where characters set a series of roles for their players. The difference is that the characters can only use the abilities of a role as long as they are assigned that role. For example the “Ravager” role, in past games the “Black Mage”, holds the fire spell, however that spell cannot be used if the character is assigned to the “Medic” (White Mage) role. Later on in the game you gain the ability to change your characters to whatever role you wish.
Several reviews have stated that this game is very linear. That is a flat falsehood. These reviews were written by people who had not even gotten halfway through which is about the point where it opens up in every game. There are also various side quests which borrows from the “hunting marks” portion of Final Fantasy 12.
Visual and audio have never been better. After the first 30 seconds of the game it is clear that these are best graphics that have ever been used in a video game before. The voice acting has come miles from previous games. There is so much more passion in their words making it seem very believable and realistic.
The reason that this role is titled the best of the worlds is because this chapter was created by combining the best of all the games and adding in a little new. For example, the sphere grid from FFX (now called the Crystarium) and the gunblade (Squall’s weapon from FFVIII). To say the least this game was well worth the wait and is one of the best Final Fantasy games of all time.

Some feeling of Xbox 360 gamers
Aug 12th
I used to work at Xbox, specifically with support issues. I am sure that there are two form letters that they use, and someone responding to the e-mail couldn't figure out which sex the e-mail author's child was, so they guessed. And it was a bad guess, but I promise you it wasn't because everyone at Microsoft/Xbox hates women and doesn't understand that women play video games. It was a mistake.
My entire team that built support sites for Xbox? Women. My manager? A woman. Our testers? Also women (well, there was one dude). So it's not a He-Man Woman Hater's Club.
Everyone's talking about their experiences shopping at game stores and the asinine comments about pink controllers and what awesome girlfriends they are. But what about we girls who worked at the game store!? It's just as awful. Then it's the customers who assume your just there to be tits for them like the booth girls at E3. I used to get into arguments about the merits of the 2K sports series over Madden ALL THE TIME (and now that EA owns the NFL rights there's no options), and it almost always denigrated into, "Yeah, but you (girl) don't even play football games so how do you know?"
While I find it kind of annoying that the Live support team sent a canned response indicating user gender, I can easily see how it happened. I bet the people here in comments going OMFFFFFFFG FUCK YOU XBOX GRARRRR!!!!! have never worked front line tech support like this. Let me tell you something, you guys, it fucking sucks. I was a tech support rep for years and every single place I worked at had very strict stats you had to meet every day — so many calls answered, so many emails responded to, quick quick quick, hustle hustle hustle, help everyone as fast as you can. Get 'em off the phone, send 'em whatever answer seems to match what they're asking.
Most likely what happened here was one lazy or forgetful tech, who either cut and paste the wrong canned answer (maybe working from a previous emailed question), or was just lazy and grabbed the first canned answer that had even a passing relationship to the question the customer actually asked. I've seen it happen a million times, and I know I've accidentally done it myself. I sure hope my mistake of the past didn't cause a customer of any former employers to react with this much outrage, because dang.
Yes, there are lots of companies that are sexist and treat their customer base with contempt. This does not seem to be what's happening here. Perspective, guys. Let's all get some.
Madden 11 demo and Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days demo released last week
Aug 2nd
Last week,The Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days demo was just released for Xbox 360. Here's the word from Major Nelson:
Play Kane & Lynch 2, a raw and brutal crime shooter that redefines the way you experience gaming, delivering an unmatched sense of realism and intensity. Demo includes relentless action in single player and online multiplayer. Play as psychopath Lynch, wanted by the entire underworld and on the run in the backstreets and rooftops of Shanghai. And play Fragile Alliance, the acclaimed multiplayer heist game based on greed, betrayal & revenge, now extended with more risk and more rewards. Get in, steal the loot, and get out in 4 minutes, but trust no one. For 8 players.
You can download the demo on XBLA.
And last week, EA Incorporated has released the demo of Madden NFL 11 for Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox 360, although the game has been monotonous for the last 10 versions, the latest installment will still be remarkable and enjoyable to play.
The Madden demo this year will be pit to the Indianapolis Colts against the greatest NFL team in the history, New York Jets.
Moreover, this year’s Madden will be more exciting and exhilarating because gamers will be delighted with the latest AI technology dubbed as “GameFlow.” The “GameFlow” option will let the gamers to utilize the ability of the Madden NFL 2011 GameFlow system, which in turn, will automatically choose the best play for the team. It is the same as the previous feature where Madden would direct a defense set-up for the team, which is basically wrong 70 percent of the time.
Kinds Of Short Reviews To Puzzle Quest 2
Jul 27th
Puzzle Quest 2 is definitely worth checking out, and while I wish the soundtrack had been improved upon more it's pretty much the only thing I didn't enjoy about this sequel.
Staying true to its origins Puzzle Quest 2 delivers the addicting gameplay of two genres and makes some wonderful changes to be considered more than just a sequel.
Like the first game, Puzzle Quest 2 takes a simple casual affair and adds layers of depth you won't be able to resist. Even though the quest is long and your customization options seem to be limitless, it still works as a game you can pick up and play for short sessions.
Puzzle Quest 2 lives up to fans’ high expectations and delivers a fun and lovingly addictive evolution of our favorite gem-matching RPG.
Play Tips for DarkStar One: Broken Alliance
Jul 24th
The PC version released in 2006, DarkStar One: Broken Alliance puts you in the shoes and ship of Kayron Jarvis, son of a talented pilot who was killed after an act of ship sabotage. Like it so often does, revenge forms the basis of this tale, though Kayron soon finds himself wrapped up in a political drama in which–wait for it–the fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance.
The twists and turns of the plot do their part to inspire interest, but low-resolution cutscenes and eccentric, oft-repeated voice-overs make it hard to take DarkStar One's story seriously. The actors portraying the leads aren't so bad, and a few side players come across well, like the boisterous, swashbuckling Captain Hornblower. Others, such as the emotionless actress performing monotone communication duties at space stations throughout the universe, sound like they barely understand what their lines mean. It's easy to admire its spunk, but you won't stay glued to the screen on the merits of this humdrum space opera.
